YMX by Yellowman Review

Remember way back when, all of a year ago, when I would wear my running clothes to go cycling?

Oh such a newbie back then

Well, I now have tri/cycling clothes that I can wear while biking, but I still would wear running tops because I didn't have any sleeveless jerseys for cycling. And let's face it, I like to work on my awesome triathlete tan lines.

That all changed a few weeks ago when I received a wonderful sleeveless jersey from YMX by Yellowman.  I was really hoping that they would send me a cycling top, because that's what I am in the most dire need of owning.

When I opened the package, I loved the color right away!  I received the Pacific Tribal sleeveless jersey and it was a pattern that didn't overwhelm me, which I also loved.

Another thing that I noted right away was that the material was extremely soft, Mike even commented on it (and I think he was slightly jealous of my new gear).

Since it has been oppressively hot and humid recently, I took the jersey out for my first solo ride ever while Mike was recovering from his crash.  One reason that wearing running tops while cycling isn't always the best idea is because there aren't any pockets in the back (we put our nutrition, cycling route, etc. in our back pockets).  I was pleased to see that this jersey had the three back pockets and I was able to put my phone in there and the route.

After successfully riding 21 miles alone

The only thing I noticed during this ride was that the material did get a little sweaty, but that's probably because it was extremely humid that day! I didn't notice any rubbing or chafing from the jersey and if I had wanted to I could have unzipped the zipper slightly to help cool me down.

I also wore the jersey last weekend when I rode the Musselman 70.3 bike course and some extra for a total of 60 miles. Since it was an extremely sunny day the built-in SPF 50+ was a huge benefit.  I had my nutrition in the back pocket this time, and while the new bike caused some issues eating, I was able to get the ziploc bag in and out easily.

You can kind of see the back pockets

I was out there for almost 4 hours and I felt great in the jersey the entire time! I got a size medium and it fits perfectly and the back is long enough so that you don't get the dreaded "aero position" tan line.

No burnt lower back for me!

About 45 miles into the ride

I think that this jersey is going to become one of my go-to options while cycling! The only bad thing I can say about it is that it is a little bit expensive, this sleeveless jersey is $98, but if it holds up for a long time then it would be worth the price.

I wish that I had a green YMX by Yellowman sleeveless jersey to go with my new tri bike!

I was given the opportunity to review this product because of my affiliation with FitFluential and I received the product at no cost. I was not compensated in any other way and the thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are, as always, my own.

  3. Been riding in my running tanks for years. I rode in a razorback last week and missed some essential spots with sunblock and my burn was dreadful (and unforgivable, can't believe I let that happen). Just got my first sleeveless jersey (Pearl Izumi) last week and did a tri in it. Instant love!!!

  4. I actually always wondered what would happen using running clothes for cycling...You can't really use swimming clothes for cycling or running. Awkward LOL. I actually wish a lot of different companies would use more bright colors. I am such a bright person so really enjoy bright things myself.

    1. Haha yea, wearing a swim suit while riding or running, not so good, but some people do it during their first sprint tri!

I love bright colors too, I'm not really into black since I wear it so much for work.
