Just some of my favorite running moments
A little over two years ago, Mike and I started our journey toward becoming Ironmen. Even before we had finished the Couch-to-5K program, which meant we hadn't even run our first 5K (as adults) yet, I knew I wanted to do an Ironman. I'm a "go big or go home" kind of person.
What has running brought to my life? Too much to tell, but I'll try.
For a brief moment when we started the Couch-to-5K program, I thought we might not even race and just use it to get in shape. Then we registered for our first 5K, the RSD (Rochester School for the Deaf) River Ramble 5K, which actually our two year racing anniversary just happened. We were hooked and registered for our second 5K that same day.
A few of our races
We have both done 45 races (with one DNF each) in two short years, which is pretty amazing if you ask me!
What can I say about the friends I have gained from becoming a runner/triathlete? They are amazing, all over the country (and in Canada) and I know I can count on them for anything. I have had the honor of having two people run with me to try to get me my sub-2 half marathon, and while it didn't happen either time (but I am SO close) I don't think I could ever repay them. We have had friends join us during our long runs to provide entertainment and break up the run, and we have had friends come and cheer for us at our races.
Not even all of the friends we have gained
All of these people probably do not even know how much they mean to me, and I am so thankful for them every day.
While running didn't bring me Mike, it has brought us closer together. In the almost nine years we have been together our bond has always been strong, but now it is stronger.
He is my number one supporter, and I am his. While there are times, I am sure, that he gets annoyed with me when I give up on myself, he never gives up on me. He always pushes me to run faster and farther than I ever thought possible.
So thank you Mike, for indulging me when I wanted to do the Couch-to-5K program. If you hadn't none of this would have been possible!
