Right before Christmas a package arrived at our house, literally as we were walking out the door to leave town. Inside were energy drinks, energy chews and powders from FRS Healthy Performance.
FRS sells products that focus on energy, protein, weight management and immunity (I didn't get to try any of the immunity products). Only the energy and weight management options are available in chew form, which was actually my favorite of any of the products.
I'm not really a big energy drink kind of person, and I don't even need coffee to function (I just like the taste) so I wasn't sure if I was going to like the drinks. When I first looked at them I was surprised to see that they were all the same yellowish color, which was weird considering two of the flavors were berry.
After hitting 1,000 miles for 2012
The products made by FRS contain Quercetin, which I have to admit I didn't know what that was so I looked it up on the company's website. Luckily it isn't some crazy chemical or anything like that!
Quercetin is a powerful all-natural antioxidant found in foods such as blueberries, red apples and grapes. It has been shown in multiple clinical trials to provide sustained energy, increased endurance, immune system support along with many other health benefits. All FRS products contain Quercetin.
I talked about how I don't need caffeine (or sugar) to function, but Quercetin could be a great substitute for those of you that do! FRS activates your body's own energy-producing mechanisms for sustained energy without fear of crashing (and they aren't like those horrible 5-hour energy products).
Now how do the products taste, since I'm sure that's what you all are really wondering about?
I have to admit, I really didn't like the drinks. I already mentioned that I don't use anything like this normally so it might have been that or it might have been just the taste didn't mesh well with my taste buds. I was able to try 6 different kinds of drinks: 2 energy, 2 protein and 2 healthy slim (weight management).
Cherry Limeade and Wild Berry
The energy drinks were each 90 calories (they do have a low cal option in peach mango) and contain a unique blend of Quercetin, green tea extract and essential vitamins.
Orange Cream and Blackberry Acai
The protein drinks were each 190 calories and contain 25 grams of whey protein and 7 grams of fiber in addition to the Quercetin, green tea and essential vitamin blend.
Strawberry Melon and Tropical
Finally, the healthy slim (weight management) drinks were each 20 calories and contain Slendesta, fiber, and green tea catechins added to the base FRS formula to deliver enhanced functionality. Slendesta is clinically-proven vegetable protein that helps people lose weight by managing appetite and hunger.
In order of taste, for me, from best to worst: Orange Cream, Blackberry Acai, Wild Berry, Tropical, Strawberry Melon and Cherry Limeade. I thought that the two low cal drinks, which I don't really drink anyway, had a weird smell to them as well as a bad taste. I would drink both of the protein drinks again, though.
In addition to the drinks I received a package of pomegranate blueberry soft chews, orange hard chews and orange energy powder (which I haven't tried yet). I really liked both the soft chews and the hard chews. I think that the taste is better than the drinks and it is easier to get that little bit of energy that you might need, rather than drinking an entire bottle of energy drink.
The big bag (pineapple mango) is from a bulu box I received
Overall, I would continue to use the chews again but I would probably forgo the drinks. I didn't notice much of an energy boost with any of the products but there was just enough to get me through some of my last runs of 2012, and my first runs of 2013.
Have you tried FRS?
I was provided FRS products, free of charge through my affiliation with FitFluential, in exchange for a product review. I was not compensated in any way and all opinions expressed within this post are, as always, my own.
