Reach the Beach Shenanigans and a Winner

I love the days leading up to a race, I can't focus on anything but the race and a relay gets me even more excited.

Seriously, my love for relays started with a smaller scale 3-person 30K relay in Canada.  I was on a race high for about a week after that experience.

 Spatula Runners

Then, Mike and I did Seneca7 with 5 other people, including my mom in her racing debut, and even though we were both sick it was probably one of my favorite races!

Will Run for Whoopie Pies

This weekend will be my third and Mike's second relay.  This is the one that is going to test us the most since it will be the longest in both distance and time.

We are running with 10 other people on team "Better than GTL : RES Repeat" (GTL is Gym, Tan, Laundry from the popular "Jersey Shore" and RES is Run, Eat, Sleep) at the inaugural Reach the Beach: New Jersey race.

Our team is from all over including Rochester, New York, New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maine.  Yes, my friend Isaac is driving 10 hours overnight to get to the relay on Friday.  Good thing he is in van 2 with us!

Oh look, Isaac, it's the photo again!

Our team has had a lot of roster changes and I think that we only have 5 original members left on the team! We have been hit with numerous injuries, a pregnancy (not that that's a bad thing, but she couldn't run) and people who said they would do it but never responded beyond that.  Even though we just got our last team member a few weeks ago, we are ready!

I am confident that our team is going to have so much fun!  Van 1 is going to start us off at 9:30am on Friday.  We have an estimated running time spreadsheet made and Mike and I probably won't run our first leg until 5 or 6pm, then we will run at 3-4am, and again in the afternoon on Saturday.

If you want to follow our journey check out my teammates' blogs, twitter and instagram accounts (Mine is @couch2ironwoman for both). We even have a hashtag for our team #teamRESR, so look for it on twitter!
