Staying Active on Vacation

I think that "vacation" for us has an entirely different meaning than it does for most people.  We are typically always on the go and don't really do a lot of relaxing.

Case in point, this is what we have been up to so far on our trip:

Wednesday we didn't feel like running so we went to Echo Lake on the island and swam about .6 miles.

I'd swim in this over Lake Ontario any day!

The best part?  We took turns swimming so that Bernie could go swimming too!

Hiking (hey, it rhymes with biking!)

On Mike's birthday we hiked up two new mountains, Parkman Mountain and Bald Peak.  It was a relatively easy hike, although there were some steep parts.

Yesterday, we went hiking with my parents, my brother and his friends.  We did two easy hikes and we walked a little over 3 miles.

We ran 13.08 miles (and walked .95 miles to get back to my parents' house) our first full day in Maine.  We were supposed to do 17, but we were both struggling and it is really, really tough to be in the right mindset to run 17 while on vacation.

That wasn't the only time we ran, though!  We also met up with our Reach the Beach teammate, Isaac, and went for a 4 mile run on Tuesday.

All sweaty from our run

Mike and I are going to run another time, tomorrow, and hopefully we will clock in 8 more miles on this trip.

I'm sad that we only have one more full day here, but we are going to make the best of it!

What are some ways that you stay active while on vacation?

  1. It depends on where we're at. We've skied, kayaked, ran, swam, hit the gym, hiked, ran around corn mazes, biked.... walked around like crazy.

You look like you're having such a wonderful time. I'm jealous. I love your shorts in that last photo!! Looking good!!!

  2. What a great vacation! I haven't done anything but walk here in Vegas so far. But I hope to get to the gym tomorrow and run on the treadmill!

  3. Looks like y'all are having fun and doing all of your favorite things! Too cool

  4. Maine is so lovely. We're heading up the week of Labor Day and I cannot wait!!!
Great job getting some awesome work-outs in while on vacation!! :)

  5. Great to see you all! RTB is going to be AWESOME!!!

  6. That lake looks so inviting! What does Bernie do if you both try to swim?

  7. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes to keep active on vacation! Hiking is one of our vacation favorites! Depending on the location of the vacation we've also been known to sky or kayak!
