Wedding Memories: The Engagement

I alluded to it yesterday but this month, July 31st to be exact, Mike and I will celebrate two years of marriage!  It has flown by, as have the almost eight years that we have been together.

I, obviously, did not have this blog when Mike and I got engaged or married.  However, if I did you would have been subjected to wedding recaps and I would have applied to Wedding Bee.  Fact.

Every Tuesday until our anniversary (and maybe a few after for a honeymoon and trash the dress recap), I am going to recap our wedding so that I have it documented here.  I have been a total slacker with scrapbooking, although I have FINALLY started scrapbooking photos from when we bought our house THREE years ago, so this is a great way for me to remember everything.

Mike and I got engaged on September 20, 2009, our five year anniversary!  We went out to dinner at Brio, unfortunately the restaurant now has a new name, and right before we ordered dessert Mike was fidgeting under the table for awhile.

He finally said, "I have a knot in my shoe, could you help me get it untied?"  When I looked down I saw that he had tied a ring to his shoe!

He got down on one knee and said, "I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else, will you marry me?"  Of course I said yes and started to cry!

We knew we didn't want to have a long engagement so we started to plan a summer wedding, which gave us only a little more than 10 months to plan!

Almost immediately we found our wedding photographer and LOVED him!  We scheduled our engagement photos right away since winter would be fast approaching in Western New York.  The first session was really short because it was an extremely cold day!  We went to the Inn on the Lake in Canandaigua, New York because there were Adirondack chairs that we wanted to use for some of the photos.

Ryan, our photographer, was really nice and scheduled a second session with us.  We started out at a local Farm Market, then stopped at a field (where I may or may not have fallen over) before ending the day at Mendon Ponds Park.

Now you tell me, what is your engagement story?

  7. Sometimes I wish we had done an engagement shoot - but I dont know if I would have used any of the photos. Love these recaps! Even tho my wedding is over, I still love looking at others weddings. I am enjoying being in weddings rather than planning. Once was enough!

    1. I wanted to do it just because we used some of the photos for Christmas presents and in wedding projects, but we never had an engagement announcement in the newspaper.

I agree, once is definitely enough!

  9. Joe and I got engaged the summer before our senior year in high school. We were married 1.5 years later. 9.5 years of marriage later..... We have zero engagement photos, only a few photos of our tiny, courthouse wedding, and that's it. We're hoping to renew our vows someplace nice next summer. (our anniversary is in January...)

This is such a sweet story. I LOVE the photographs. What great memories. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Must have missed this when I was out of town. Great pics (something I wish we'd have spent more on). We got engaged 8/3/94 (3 years to the day from when we met at the location where we met - a church). We went to dinner at a place that no longer is in business (now a bbq joint), went for a drive and talked about our future. He got down on one knee in a gravel parking lot and I asked him what he was doing (since I figured it would hurt). There were tears though and then I had to tell him that I needed to use a bathroom. So romantic, right? LOL We're coming up on our 17th anniversary (plus four years before that) so I guess it all worked out.
