A nice sign for Dasher
Mike and I had actually moved our long run to yesterday, but after waking up we both decided to just do it today. That meant that we needed to run 6 miles before Dash for Dasher and time it just right so that we weren't standing around too long in between.
The master route developer in our household (Mike), mapped out our route having it end at the location for Dash for Dasher. Unfortunately, the event wasn't until noon so we didn't leave our house until 10:56am.
It was hot! I started out alright but by 5 miles I was already way too hot. We got to Dash for Dasher at about 11:57, so we just made it in time!
Eyes are closed and stretching in between
Me with the sign
I have to say that Eric and his wife Sheila did an AMAZING job organizing this event in such a short amount of time. So many people were there and they had food and water provided for everyone running and walking. There were even door prizes, although we didn't win anything!
We all wore white in honor of Dasher's fur color
Greyhounds ready to walk
I was also able to meet another #trailsroc founder, Sean, and his daughter. We had been DailyMile friends for awhile and are just now twitter friends. Mike and I are going to go to a #trailsroc meet up in a couple of weeks so it was fun to officially meet him!
The last three miles of our run were just as hot, but knowing we were doing it for Dasher made it worth it. After getting some food, we walked home (about a mile).
Thank you again to Eric for doing a great job with this event! There were so many people and dogs (greyhounds, pit bulls and various others) there supporting Dasher's family and the community. This is what running is all about!
