Dump Cake

Time for another recipe!

We've only made one other dessert recipe so far so I decided that it was time for another!  Mike had wanted to make Buffalo Chicken Salad sandwiches but that was similar to what we had last weekend.

Dump Cake

1 large can crushed pineapple
1 can pie filling of your choice (we used raspberry)
1 box of yellow or white cake mix (we used yellow)
1 1/2 sticks of butter, cut into pieces

This recipe is really easy!  It is another one from the recipe book that my mom made me and Mike for our anniversary last year.  I did have to call her to make sure that you just dump everything into the baking dish, but other than that it is pretty self-explanatory.

I put the crushed pineapple in the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking dish and then spooned the raspberry pie filling on top.

 Pretty simple so far

Then I added the dry yellow cake mix on top of the pineapple and pie filling and topped everything with the butter pieces.

Time to go in the oven

The entire thing was put into a 350 degree oven for one hour.

 Time to eat!

This cake was really good!  It is more like a cobbler than a cake, but we both really liked it.  We need to buy ice cream to go with it though.

What kind of pie filling would you add to this?

  1. Yummy!!! I'd probably use some of my homemade jam though - maybe strawberry rhubarb! :)

  2. I would probably use cherry or blueberry... looks yummy and easy!! Two questions- you greased pan before you put pineapple in, and did you drain the pineapple first?

    1. I didn't grease the pan and you don't drain the pineapple, it helps with the cake mix since you don't add anything to that it's just the dry mix.

Mike wouldn't like cherry or blueberry, but I would.

    2. Okay, thanks for the tips! And what is with Michael being 'specky' about his food?! 'Specky' is a Gioia term from when my younger brother, Pat, was picky about his foods!!!

  3. I forgot to tell you when you called that it is really awesome with vanilla ice cream. I love it with strawberry filling and blueberry. I would love to try the raspberry and maybe apple. It is super easy and it is great for pot luck type things as it makes a good amount!!
    So glad you enjoyed it!!

    2. It won't last long with ice cream and you can reheat it in the microwave if you want it warm so it melts the ice cream....wow this is making me hungry...wish i had some!!
