Thai Turkey Burgers with Peanut Sauce

We are going strong with our new recipes!  I am loving trying new things and with the exception of one recipe, so far everything has been great!

Last night Mike and I made Thai Turkey Burgers with Peanut Sauce following a recipe that I found via Pinterest.  You can see the original recipe, here

As per usual, we made some modifications to the recipe and we even were a little bit lazy this time!  We were going to make the peanut sauce from scratch, as the original blogger did, but we would most likely never use some of the ingredients for anything else.  When we were in Wegmans (seriously, if you have never been in a Wegmans it will change your view on grocery shopping) we saw this House of Tsang Bangkok Padang Peanut Sauce and decided to just use that!

Thai Turkey Burgers with Peanut Sauce

1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup chopped broccoli
1/2 teaspoon ground (cayenne) red pepper
Peanut Sauce (Mike just poured some in, we didn't measure it)
3 Buns
Spinach leaves

To make the burgers you combine the ground turkey, carrots, broccoli, red pepper and some peanut sauce in a bowl and mix together (Mike did this part, yuck!).  Since we only had three buns, Mike shaped three patties and we had a little bit of mixture left over.  You could definitely make four smaller burgers with the amount of mixture that this recipe makes.

We cooked the burgers on a skillet that was sprayed with cooking spray (grilling) and cooked them until the center wasn't pink anymore, approximately 10 minutes total.  Just make sure that the burgers don't stick to the skillet and to flip every three to four minutes!

Once the burgers were cooked we put them on the buns (toasted) and topped them with some spinach leaves and more peanut sauce.

 Action shot!

These were AMAZING!  We always have turkey burgers but we never do anything special with them.  Occasionally, we will add some ranch dressing mix to them but we haven't done that in a long time!  It is nice to have an alternative option that didn't require too much extra time to prepare.

Do you like turkey burgers?  Any special ways that you prepare them?

  1. We actually tried these this Monday and then we got sick with an intestinal virus that night. So they were good but I don't know if we will be eating these or any ground turkey for a very long time! We didn't use the peanut sauce though, I just added about half of the ingredients to the meat with the carrots and broccoli.

  3. Have never made turkey burgers since our go to lean ground meat is venison, but I imagine any "burger" meat would suffice. I've never had peanut sauce. Will have to see if something this handy is at our grocery store.

    1. I'm sure that you could use any type of ground meat too!

Hopefully your grocery store has peanut sauce, it should. It was in the Asian section at our grocery store.

  4. Mmm, love peanut sauce - I always overcook ground turkey and make it too dry ... need to work on that.

    1. You should try this recipe then! The vegetables helped it stay really moist, it definitely wasn't dry at all!

    1. It is good, you should try it! It's a little bit spicy but not too bad.

Don't be fooled, I still just "help" and Mike does the majority of the cooking!

    1. I know Wegmans is great! We have a crazy one here that is HUGE!! It's overwhelming at times but you can always find neat stuff! It will be interesting to see how Trader Joe's does when it comes here.

    1. Wow! I can't believe you've never had a turkey burger! That's the only way (with the exception of a few veggie burgers) that I have had a burger in a long, long time. (I basically stopped eating any meat except chicken and turkey in 5th grade).

Turkey meatloaf is really good too! We don't make it often enough!

  8. Yum this sounds delicious. I HATE mixing raw meat so we buy ours premade at Costco. :-)

  10. Is it sad that I've never had a turkey burger? Btw, I just finished catching up on all your past posts. And I actually always run with my jewelry because I can't remember to take it off before I go run.

    1. Definitely would recommend them!! I just told Mike last night that we need to buy more stuff for salad because I want to use the peanut sauce as my dressing (kind of like Panera's Thai Chopped Chicken salad!)
