Christmas Virtual 5K Race Recap

This morning Mike, my mom and I headed out to run Daily Vitamin F's Christmas Virtual 5K.

All decked out in our Christmas gear

My mom and Mike are WAY faster than me, but they were nice and ran at a pace that was only a little uncomfortable for me (but more on that later).

We didn't feel like running near our house and in all honesty I have been trying to avoid running on the sidewalk because of the concrete. I don't want to re-injure myself so I have been running on softer surfaces, which is one reason we ran on the treadmill on Wednesday (although I don't want to do that again for a long time).

The Genesee Riverway Trail was the scene for our 5K race. Mike and I have run there a few times before and it is great because of the varying surfaces. It had actually snowed a little bit last night but the surface wasn't too slippery. We ran through Turning Point Park and had to slow down a little bit when we ran along the boardwalk. We saw one lone swan hanging out in the water all by himself.

Throughout the entire run I knew we were going at a pace that was similar to what I ran at the It's a Wonderful Run 5K. My mom and Mike were running effortlessly, but I was quite literally racing! My mom even mentioned that I was going to have an awesome time, but I wasn't sure if I was going to beat my official PR.

We pushed the pace at the end and my mom counted down 3.05, 3.06, etc. and then we were finally done!

The Christmas Virtual 5K stats:

Lap 1 - 9:18 pace
Lap 2 - 9:27 pace
Lap 3 - 9:10 pace
Lap 4 (.12) - 8:36 pace

Total Time: 28:55
Average Pace: 9:17 minutes per mile

My mom's watch actually said our total time was 29:02 but that is still faster than my official PR.

As we were walking back we saw a beaver, he was huge! I wish we had a camera with us, he was quite oblivious of us walking by him.

Overall I would say that was a great race for me! I'm glad that my mom and Mike pushed me to a sub 29:00 minute time.

Merry Christmas!!

Edited to add:

Since we did this run on Christmas Eve, it meant that we also completed the Christmas Eve Virtual 5K put together by Run Mom Run and Run My Guts Out.

  3. Totally love your outfit. I suffered on the pavement - concrete sidewalk and asphalt roads near my house. Did pass over the Moreau River (just above the confluence with the Missouri) and it was pretty in the sunshine with the bare trees around. Didn't have anyone to keep me company or push me, but I was suffering enough without that!

  4. Great job Jamie! Congrats on your PR! I knocked out the Home for the Holidays 1
Virtual 10K today and I'm counting it for these two virtual 5K's too since I stopped at the 5K point to check my time.

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  7. Looks like a beautiful place to run. Nice pace and congrats on the PR. I ran the Christmas 5K too but I couldn't find a Christmas outfit that was warm enough to run in! I had to settle for the pre-run Santa hat :)

  9. Awesome split times! I didn't run this weekend except to the cookie tray. I was at my parents' and got in late Friday and left around noon on Christmas. Now that I'm feeling extra lumpy and bloated from everything I ate it's back on the road for me today! Going to try to get in ~7miles before this rain/snow storm hits.
