Bernie Turns One!

Today is a very special day for the newest member of our family.

Who me?

On this day last year, Bernie was born! We didn't know him then but a short 8 weeks later he came into our lives.

We weren't really looking for a dog at that time, believe me I wanted one though. One day in January I was out sick from work and I heard a cat crying outside. Our neighbors let their cat outside, but we also have a stray cat who we affectionately call Mowgli that roams around near our house.

I looked out the window and I saw Mowgli sitting there crying. When I saw him walk, I noticed that he was limping. I was really worried about him and I decided to go outside (probably not the best decision since I was sick) and coax him into our enclosed porch. After using a whole bag of cat treats, he finally came into our porch.

Once he was in there, I wasn't really sure what to do. I texted Mike and he suggested that I call Lollypop Farm, the local Humane Society, to see if they would take him. In the end, I let Mowgli go. Admittedly, for selfish reasons. I couldn't stand to see him go and never see him again. Plus, I don't think he would be adoptable since he has been living on his own for so long. He still roams around our house in case you were worried!

Since Lollypop Farm's website has animals available for adoption on it, I started browsing. Mike actually commented on the pictures of Bernie, then Ernie, and his brother, Bert.

Baby Bernie

Well, once we saw that face we had to go see him.

We fell in love with him and on January 30, 2011 we brought him home!

Here are some of my favorite pictures of Bernie.

This cute boy is in for some treats and a walk later on today.

  4. He liked it, we only gave him two pieces though. We also bought him a pumpkin pie one for Thanksgiving.

He likes his gifts, two are good but we have to bring the Rhino chew (the black one) back because he has already taken some big chunks out of it. He is tough to buy for since he is such a strong chewer!
