Back to Life

Back to Reality. I guess I channel En Vogue here on the blog.

How was everyone's Thanksgiving? Ours was great! We first spent the day before Thanksgiving with Mike's parents and then headed to Massachusetts to spend the holiday with my parents, brother and grandmother. It was great to be there since we only get to see her once or twice a year.

Yesterday we left my grandmother's house (not as early as my family did, they had a lovely wake up call at 4:00am) and spent the night at Mike's parents' again before heading back to Rochester today.

Since my last post, I have a lot to catch you up on. Are you ready? Here we go!

Pile on the Miles Challenge

I signed up to participate in the Pile on the Miles Challenge at the end of October and it just ended on Friday.

I didn't win any of the prizes, but it was still a lot of fun!

Here is the weekly run down of my mileage (walking and running):

Week 1 - 7.5 miles (recovering from my first injury)
Week 2 - 13.5 miles
Week 3 - 0 miles (injured)
Week 4 - 14.1 miles

Total Miles: 35.1

Overall, I would say that I didn't do too bad. I was injured twice during this challenge so I could have done better if this wasn't the case. I think that Monica is going to do another challenge in January and you better believe that I am going to sign up!

Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge

Another challenge that I signed up for is the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge (HBBC). This challenge is designed so that you get points for running and other healthy activities, like biking or weight lifting. That meant I was able to get some more points even though I was injured in the beginning, the challenge started on November 19.

I earned 2 additional points at the beginning of the challenge for doing things like putting the HBBC badge on my blog and mentioning the challenge on Facebook. Here is the rest of my weekly totals (so far):

November 19-25: 17 points
November 26-December 2: 3 points

Total points: 22

The challenge goes until January 6th so I know that I can get a lot more points soon! This will be made easier because of my indoor cycling class, Jillian Michaels' DVD and the virtual races that I have signed up for!


What's that? I'm talking about running on this blog. I know, I know it has been awhile since I talked about running considering that I have been injured since the Stockade-athon 15K.

Well, good news! I successfully ran twice this past weekend. There was some walking thrown in there but I ran 1.2 miles straight at least once!

On Wednesday Mike and I ran at Central Park in Schenectady, New York. Mike ran 4.1 miles and did a 5K in 24:45! I had Bernie with me and we covered 3 miles in 36 minutes. I walked in the beginning and then alternated between walking and running. The most that I ran was probably .7 miles at one time but it felt good to get out there!

On Friday, Mike, my mom and I all ran in Rhode Island. My dad came with us so that he could watch Bernie while we ran. Mike and my mom ran together and I started out walking. Once I felt warmed up, I started to run. I ended up running for 1.2 miles before I walked again!

I know that my legs really want to run again because there were times that my pace was 8:58! I held back a little bit because I know that aerobically I am not in shape right now. When I saw Mike and my mom, I turned around. My mom forgot her inhaler so she stayed back with me and Mike went on ahead. We all ended up doing 4 miles, with my time being 41 minutes! Not too bad.

I'm glad that I have gotten back out there and I am excited to go running tomorrow morning with Mike.
